"Having the ignition powered through the key switch
requires the master switch to be on to have ignition capability."
This might be true of other systems, but not the
LightSpeed. You are to wire the ignition directly to the battery through a
circuit breaker, preferably switchable. The ignition switch provides a negative
(ground) return to the unit, just as in a magneto, which keeps it turned
off.
