I am also not sure exactly what "gyro enhanced vertical speed" means. If someone has a good explanation, I would like to hear it.
I don't know what is in the guts of the TruTrak ADI,
but I would guess that a more appropriate label
is "accelerometer enhanced vertical speed".
A single axis accelerometer can be used to
provide a feedback signal to the display or
vertical autopilot to help damp out turbulence
and react much faster than the static-port derived
vertical speed signal.
If they really mean "gyro enhanced", then they may
using gyro-based pitch measurements for the same
purpose.
It would be easy to figure out if you have the instrument
powered up, but not bolted down. Just see if linear
translation of the instrument up and down affects the
display.
