Access from outside is easy and due to the design, the overcenter tilt of the hinge eliminates the need for a latch.  The weight of the chocks, fuel sampler, etc.. hold it closed or open when tilted back.  The bin is 13” wide, 4.5” deep, 4.75” long.  I used .040 aluminum because I had access to a shear and a brake, but it would work just as well in glass.   I can not take credit for the idea, I saw a similar one in Tony Sustare’s Accuracy Avionics shop.
