Just wanted to let you know what's happening with my Lancair-235/320 (Kit
Number 077) N320PL...
This last October I completed Annual Inspection number 8... Recently
reached the 1,300 hour mark...
Overall have had very few problems - so far mainly with certified engine
parts, including magnetos, carburetor and cylinders..
Replaced the nose gear actuator and nose gear door actuator which were
bypassing internally causing the pump to run too often. This fixed the
problem...
The Skytec starter I originally installed was nothing but trouble (kept
popping the breaker when attempting a start while the engine was hot) , so
replaced with a B & C unit - works perfectly...
I was, unfortunately, disappointed with the Lightspeed Engineering
Electronic Ignition which I couldn't keep working for more than a few hours
at a time.
Switched back to dual magnetos, which are working very well, though during
the short periods of time when the electronic stuff was working it
definitely
improved performance, engine smoothness and fuel consumption.
If I had to do it over again, would have selected the B & C 60 amp
alternator - the B & C 40 amp alternator is barely adequate, though it's an
excellent
unit. The B & C Linear Voltage Regulator has been trouble free and is
excellent...
So far, my longest non-stop leg has been from San Diego to Seattle - 6.5
hours - 1,000NM. The return flight was 5.5 hours...
The paint has been chipping but otherwise holding up well. I call it a 50
foot paint job - looks good from 50 feet. Plan to repaint after my
retirement
in a couple of years...
Still saving my pennies for an M/T electrically controlled constant-speed
prop and am researching autopilot options...
Best regards!
