For those building or about to build. The *new* style center console does
not include a molded extrusion where the throttle, prop, and mixture
controls go. As a result, you can deviate from the manual. The manual
would have you make a mounting bracket for these controls out of 1/8" alum
that is 1 5/16 wide and it would have you round the corners of that bracket
to match the outline of the old console.
Here is the old style console (I'm sure some will say the "better" one :) )

Here is the new style

corner mount.

Because this extrusion is no longer there, you can get away with a wider
part and change the contour to better fit the console. You'll see in that
last picture that I used a trapezoid shape and I used 1.5" wide 1/8
aluminum.
I've attached a template if anyone wants to create a similar piece. I would
change one thing tho... If I did this again, I'd move the horiz "center"
line that all the holes are centered on lower to gain more space above for
lettering, etc. It's centered at .75" in the PDF attached.
As for finish, I'm going to get my piece anodized and then engraved so it
matches the fuel selector. You'll also notice that I didn't countersink the
screw holes as the manual suggests. I'll use hex screws, the kind with a
pan head and allen key in the middle. I'm also going to use these on the
fuel selector... Who in their right mind would use *bolts* :)
One last comment, the manual calls for some pretty whacky drill sizes for
the three main holes, I didn't have bits that matched, so I just used a
unibit and stepped them to .5, and the other two are 13/16. They are a
perfect fit for the controls that go in them. One final comment, when you
build this part, there are huge star washers that go on the other side of
this bracket with the nut that attaches the controls to this bracket.
You'll have to cut the console holes large enough that the washers don't
hold the aluminum bracket off the face of the console.

Hope this is helpful.
