I did it the same way to remove my canopy from my LNC2 and found it the
eysiest way to do it,but it is true that you need two helpers to hold the
canopy and I think it is impossible to do such a work alone.

It's probably a little easier to leave the hinge pivot bolts in and remove
the bolts at the canopy attach point. I've done it both ways and it's not
too bad as long as you have some help. You'll need to be inside the
cockpit
while two helpers hold the canopy from either side.
