I have been told that there are conductive primers that bleed off static, but which do not interfere with radio transmission. These are used on radar radomes to provide discharge to the airframe without interfering with the radar. I understand that Courtauld Aerospace (Glendale CA 818-240-2060) has such a primer. but I have not contacted them yet since I a ways from tackling that problem. I believe that a lot of the radio noise and precipitation static on the Lancair IVs is due to static buildup on the cowling which is Fiberglas, not carbon, and which intercepts the greatest amount of precipitation. Dayton Grainger may be able to shed some light on this topic also. I do know that well constructed Lancair IVs with good internal airframe grounding suffer from problems with radio interference and Stormscope jamming when flying in clouds, particularly ice clouds. Perhaps our readership knows an expert on the topic that can shed some light and make sme recommendations. Fred Moreno
