I agree government is not the answer to the problem, we must take it upon
ourselves because with my experience if I had not gotten the FAA involved
my problems would have been swept under the table.  As to the premise that
if we did not have The FAA involved in the process everything would be
handled and more engine companies would sprout up is a misconception. Industry has always shown that they put the dollar before safety, all you
have to do is look around at problems with products and see who forced the
companies to correct the problem, Govt & Consumer Law Suits not the
companies paying for their failures out of the good of their heart.  The
Crank problem only came as an AD because the FAA forced Continental to do
it, and for no other reason. As to the head problem I know for a fact that the FAA is also looking into
that problem as well as other problems and maybe they can force Continental to
do something but I doubt it because it is not as life critical as a failed
crank or oil pump drive.  So the only way is for the owner to do something
and it is not just Lancair, it is everyone who has these engines in their
planes, (pipers etc.)
