To the person asking about what to do if a hole is mis-drilled:
My very first hole into the spar on the fast build 360 was drilled too far off
90 degrees. Sheepishly, this is when I learned that this project was not going
to tolerate handy-man sloppy fits and workmanship. What is acceptable and what
isn't depends on the situation, so one angle tolerance is hard to state. I also
found out that two components to be bolted together must be first clamped and
then both drilled through or the holes won't have a prayer of lining up
sufficiently. If a mistake happens, I've either filled the hole with flox and
re-drilled (in the same place but at the correct angle) or wobbled out the hole
if, in my judgement, the situation would allow this. Holding the drill at 90
degrees is difficult to judge. I understand there are fixtures to help with
this (a carpenter's square can help if you have 3 hands) but I've either had
someone else help observe, or I keep moving my head to view the progress from
different angles. Of course for many situations, the drill press solves the
problem. You should have one of these. Regards,
Ed de Chazal
