I knew I forgot to do something.  Last summer while parked on the ramp in
Renton a looker tripped over the tie down chain and broke my nicely painted
quick connect ring.  Upon further investigartion I have concluded that
these quick connect tie down devices are not designed for side loads which
they would be subject to if the winds were to actually try and move my
Lancair.  If you look at the pin closely you will note that they are hollow
and have several radial grooves which is where mine broke.  I have since thrown away the pins, tapped the tubes the pins fit into, and
now use a solid screw in eye bolt.  I will add this SDR  to the list which
I should have done sooner.

Incidently, we maintain the Service Difficulty List and make it available
to everybody via the Lancair Network News, Marv's Mail List and is also
posted on our web site at www.lancair.net.  Your duty is to review the SB
SDR list occasionally and please contribute to it as you experience service
difficulties.  This is a safety of flight issue and will help prevent folks
from reinventing the wheel in flight.   SDRs may be submitted via fax,
E-mail, telephone or letter to LNN@Lancair.net, (612) 474-4154.  We also
monitor this site and occasionally pick up SDRs here as well but this is
not quite as reliable.  The SB/SDR listing contains over 6 years of SB and
SDRs.  Lots of good information on that list.

Angle of Attack forever,
Jim Frantz
