The 1/4 inch foam and several carbon layers were added on top of the plan's foam and BID schedule. This stiffener may be useful during flight, as is the over-the-longeron inside lip, since the outside low pressure is trying to suck the canopy off and to distort any part of the canopy that it can. It seems to me that high speed cruise balloons the canopy sufficiently to shorten it (1/8 to 3/16 inch). This makes the 1/4 inch seal between the rollovers open up in flight. Of course, my problem may be related to the fact I have the old 1/8 inch thick plexiglas while you more modern folks are using the thicker, stiffer 3/16 plexiglas.
