A bit embarrassed to even be asking this but when it's -30 outside these
questions just keep running through your brain.
Last week I learned the hose fitted by the oil temp & pressure sensors in
actually the heater OUTLET so now I've gotta ask where the hell is the
heater INLET?  or was there some kind of Y-fitting on the lower rad hose in
the car?

I have been flying my Rotary Powered Zenair Zenith for several years with a canopy defroster/cabin heater connected to the hot coolant outlet on the rear housing. The hot coolant return is on the coolant pump. I have been using the one facing the firewall, but I have also used one facing the engine. Both worked quite well. Barbed pipe fittings on the rear housing and on the coolant pump
