I thought
you removed the turbo mostly for weight
reasons.
At least this failure mode was fairly benign. If another one fails I'm
outta here!
I gave up on the Mazda turbo
when I saw how scary the inside of a used one looked. At that point,
I ordered a custom turbo from Turbonetics, with a stainless turbine
housing. After a couple months, with no hope of ever getting it from
Turbonetics, I gave up on the turbo
altogether.
For the record, I'm not completely
anti-turbo, but in my situation, I don't "need" the power, and I can't tolerate
the weight on the nose, or the space under the cowl. I wouldn't rule
out some future project, that would include a turbo, and far more power than I
"need" :-)
