Hi Charlie,
I gave this a lot of thought (but not a lot of research) but decided that I wanted the return lines for the following reasons:
1. keeps fuel from boiling in the lines
2. helps prevent vapor lock (see #1)
3. will help 'burp' water from the system since the water will be pumped past the injectors and returned to the tank; unless you get 'a lot' of water you will be OK.
4. you can easily adjust fuel pressure to compensate for injectors that are to small or to large.
Bill Freeman really got my attention with the hazards of fuel system design and I decided that I just didn't want to be on the 'leading edge' with this. I decided that Tracy's suytem is the simplest and is well proven, so I am just going to copy his design (matter of fact, I just copying a lot of Tracy's stuff).

Speaking of fuel pressure regulators, is there anyone on the list that's been 'intimate' with the rumored electronic regulated fuel pumps in the newer cars? Are the regulators independent of the engine computer?
I'm at the proseal stage of building my tanks, & the 'no return' option is attractive. Tracy, I'm familiar with your technique & understand its advantages. However, I'm going to have 4 tanks & with the no-return pumps I could do the entire fuel system with just one valve & no extra return lines.
