Why would you not use Viton now? I use Viton for ALL my O rings nowadays.

Thank You all for the replies; at least I know FlyRotary still has a pulse.
I can no longer access the <flyrotary@lancaironline.net> website directly,
but I get The Digest which is a collection of all correspondence from the
previous day; not great but better than nothing.
I don't think ethanol in the gasoline plays much of a role inside the
reduction drive and I'm using Hi-Test unleaded, which last time I checked
has zero ethanol in it up here in the Great White North. The O-Ring is the
original one spec'd and installed by Tracy (Real World Solutions). I found a
source (Sterling Seal and Supply) via Amazon for a 351 Buna/Nitrile Rubber
O-Ring, spec'd for fuel and oil with a temperature rating of -30F to 250F;
Nitrile Rubber without Buna is sepc'd to only 212F.
This morning, I found the leak by slightly pressurizing the redrive with
air; using soap and water it was easy to see it leaking around the cap
screws that hold the Ring gear in place. I removed the drive and after
disassembly on the bench, I found that all 8 of those cap screws were loose
as a goose. I'm going to buy a small pipe cleaner and using lacquer thinner
will clean up the threads and then I'll apply some Loctite before
reassembly.

Subject: RD-1C Oil Leak and Ring Gear Retainer O-Ring

I have an oil leak at my RD-1C redrive.
Took the drive off and noticed the large O-Ring was bulged out in one area
between two mounting bolts.
The RD-1C Manual/Parts List specs the O-Ring as 5.125" O.D. x .190" thick.
Has anyone ever replaced this before and/or have a known source of where to
obtain?
Thanks for any feedback.
