Here is something I tried on the exhaust. I
have the turbo 11 muffler and I added the exhaust extension which has 3 rows of
holes, 8 holes long, the holes are 1/2" with 1/2"s between holes, I inserted a
1/2 inch rod in the holes and gave them a slight bend by moving the top of rod
to the rear. Extension is pinched down to 1 1/8th inch a outlet. Approx.
distance from engine is 26" to muffler, 24" of muffler and 12 " to end of
tailpipe, the tailpipe ends mid seat position on the Wittman W-10. This
addition seems to remove the nasty snarl of the exhaust in the cabin. It
would be interesting to remove muffler and try 36 inches of pipe with holes
to see what the effect would be, but at 79 years of age I may never get to this
unless the inside of the muffler starts to come apart.
One a side note the Marcotte re-drive with the seal
retainer and a grove machined under the bearings for the prop shaft to
relief the lube pressure on the seal retainer is working well. The
Marcotte has a self contained lubrication system with 80W hypoid. The
temperature sensor installed indicates 180 degree, I purchased a power steering
cooler to install, but at this time I don't think it is needed. 13B
installed in Wittman W-10 Tailwind. JohnD
