So has anybody considered using the Atkins single rotary in an aircraft?


Says 220 lbs.  But that does not include coolers or PSRU.  Also, you could buy some of the unique parts they offer and aluminum housings from Racing beat to build your own, lighter version.


That would save around 30 lbs.  Could run the thing plugs up with a custom oil pan.  Probably do a different ignition and fuel system.  If you could keep the weight below 200 lbs, it would be nice for smaller airplanes.  What d'ya think?

BTW, I am not familiar with how the PSRUs mount to rotaries.  Is it bolted to the rear side housing?  What happens to the flywheel?  I am assuming the Atkins single rotary rotating assembly has a separate counter weight on the rear (like automatic RX7s or aftermarket manual clutch flywheels).
