I did a couple of searches in the archives but couldn't really find the answer I was looking for so will post it here (sorry if this has be flogged in the past).

I have a collector that is a 2 inch. OD pipe (from Burns SS I think), and it is fed by two 2 inch pipes coming from my exhaust manifold.  My question is what are you guys (who have been flying for a while) finding works well as I proceed downstream?  Should I keep it at 2 inches as I run it to a muffler, or should it be increased it size in an attempt to slow it down, decreased in size, etc.  prior to hitting the muffler.  I have yet to decide on a muffler so also am wondering if this is something I will have to attempt to build myself; or have some you had good luck by now with a certain brand?

I think I read a while back that some of "decreased" the pipe size slightly as it comes out of the muffler (to the tip) and that reduced noise a bit and didn't really effect performance...is that true?

Thanks for any inputs!

P.S.  Had good turn out at our EAA sponsored Burger Burn and beautiful weather...but only one guy actually flew in...maybe Dennis / Mark / Bobby / Bill E. will be able to come up for visit next year!  :)
