I'm sure Lynn will have some comments to make regarding the condition of the front main and thrust bearings. My suggestion is to reassemble with new parts and carefully measure the e-shaft end play. My guess is that the pieces of thrust bearing probably caused the damage to the main bearing. Also, pull your oil pump and check it carefully. If not in spec, replace it. I'm curious, how do you remove the rear counterweight? Well well, when I pu= lled the front cover, all looked ok, HOWEVER, when I started pulling the pa= rts off the end of the E-Shaft I had the remains of the front roller bearin= g fall into my hand. Yeah, the one that likes to slide off the end of the spacer that I took SPECIAL care= to try to ensure would NOT slide off the end of the spacer (pix included).= Ok, that's one issue.

I went ahead and replaced t= he front bearing and the RX-8 stationary gear/bearing slipped in with absol= utely no problem. Yes, Marc, the key was in p= lace when I pulled the oil pump, however, as I was putting it together, I d= ropped the damn key in the oil pan and decided to call it a night. I will f= ish it out along with the front o-ring that dropped down there too when I get a chance to get back out the= re and remove the pan. Then to got ahead and replace the other parts I got = to try to make it all a little better.
