That's easy...goals. Apollo had a fixed goal and
timeframe to achieve it. That was the last time there was a goal. Since
then NASA has been captured by political and bureaucratic interests.
NASA should be abolished totally...I used to work
there. White collar welfare.
Perhaps keep the JPL and allow them to do
robotic/science missions and buy rocket rides from Elon Musk...or the lowest
bidder.
I'm a recovering space enthusiast....The rocket equation is
a bitch. Until we figure out mass-les propulsion...human spaceflight will
remain impractical.
