What's an "RS232 line driver" and where do I get one?
I presume this is the gizmo that's needed to connect the laptop to the EC2.
I'd like to try the program, but I'm not about to start in with a soldering
iron. I've done enough damage with that tool already. :(

That sounds OK. My laptop only has USB, but I have a USB-Serial
converter.
I think it's COM3 right now, but I may be able to change the port
(I hope).
I had to order the RS232 line driver, so it'll be a while before I can try
it live. I hope that it sheds some light on a couple of rough
spots that I
have in running the engine through the power range.
