There should be a way to definitively settle
the question of whether or not pre-ignition or delayed/weak ignition
is the culprit. You could use a knock detector installed between the spark plugs
to measure when the actual combustion event takes place and compare this to when
it should take place. Doing this before and during SAG should answer the
question.
