I have many times cursed the RV cowling design.  I enlarged the nose gear slot which greatly eases the bottom cowl removal.  the std split elevation leaves little room to do any maintenance or even inspections.  I've envied the bonanza cowl with it's bi-fold door that let's you get to so much more.  while you're at it, redesign the airbox so the filter can be inspected/changed in less than 2 hours!
after several fiberglass repairs to the ears that join in air inlet halves, I changed my lower cowl to include the entire air inlet.  it is far stronger and eliminates the piano hinge stuff.    kevin (1000hrs)
