That's nice of you to offer, Jim.
The one I need is the 3rd gen (with the serpentine belt)
But it's not a benign failure mode and I've been through 2 used ones already. I'd really prefer to get a new or reconditioned part, or a suitable idler gear,  if anyone can suggest where I might find one at a reasonable price.
Regards,
John

John,
I have a smog pump from an RX7 that was given to me.
I decided not to use it because of its weight.
Don't have any idea what condition it is in or how to tell
but you are welcome to it.
I'm in Milford CT, so not too far from you.
Let me know if you want it.
Jim

Mine's a 3rd gen where the same belt drives the alternator, smog
    pump,
and the water pump with the back of the belt. I don't think a shorter
belt would work. Another alternative would be to get yet another smog
    pump. Anyone have one?
