The 4 plunger Bosch pumps are $$$$$$$SUPER EXPENSIVE$$$$$$. Very fine units. I have run the 4 cylinder mechanical version on gas cosworth powered race cars. The pump is like another little engine feeding the main one! 20 years ago, I believe the PUMP alone was $4800.00! The system ran very well, but then it should have for what it cost. This is a Bosch 4-plunger - I think here every injector has its own Pump (plunger)
The newer systems run like a regular EFI - one pressurized rail and the injectors control the fuel...
 
However this guy treats a Diesel injection pump overhaul like it is a oil-change!! :)
