That is so you will use only long bodied NGKs. I die grind a slight taper in the hole. And remove the cast on lip or eyebrow around the hole. Then thin down a cheap deep socket to go in there. Racing Beat sells one but its pricey. I only used the NGKs if I got them free.
 
There are a number of plugs with a 5/8 hex that work also. Only 12 to 14 pounds of torque.
 
And if you look at them often, a drop of anti-seize on the threads keeps the housings happy.
 
If a plug sticks, warm the engine and try again.
