Charlie, you had the right idea about the aluminum
bottle. I had the propane bottle built and there was some petroleum
residue in there that the acid didn't want to touch, so I'm thinking that I can
just saw the bottle in half and clean it, weld back together again, no big
deal. I didn't notice anything unusual about welding when I welded the
fittings on the side and filled the vent holes in the top that I drilled to
purge the bottle, but when l tried to weld the bottle back together, it started
to bulge and crack along the weld and I just couldn't get it welded even trying
to stress relieve it. So tomorrow I'll order up some weld bungs for the
fire extinguisher bottle, as I have two or three of them lying around
here. Some times all the welding experience in the world doesn't prepare
you for the unknown. JohnD
