Thomas, I agree that the cheapest method would be to buy a wreck. The Audis are the first true field source of the newest Siemens piezoelectric system. A possibility for future gains is that the throttle valve might be eliminated (gas too!) which would lessen pumping loses. I'm in central California.
Cheers

Hi Bill,
well, I was afraid that asking orbit would not work (...for us). I guess that's why Francois started his own development too.
I hope very much that your system works, as I doubt that Mistral will make their system available as a stand a lone for homebuilders, as they d owith their PSRU and backplate...
Francois?
The Siemens parts would probably be cheapest if you buy an "accident" and re-sell all the other stuff!":)
Where are you located? Do they sell Direct-injection Audis where you are?
I understand BMW and Mercedes also have common rail EFI Diesels.....

Bill (Jepson),
didn't you start to "work" on a direct-injection/ignition system to be used on the Rotary for burning Jet-A/Diesel?
If I am not mistaken..... - any progress on this?
I think you talked about using some outborder-injection system/parts....
Best Regards,

Thomas,
I was researching direct injection yes. I was looking at the injectors from Merc 2 cycle DI outboards, which would be suitable. The injectors used on the Opti-max Mercurys are designed by orbital in Austrailia. They are not very cooperative with anyone that isn't an OEM. I talked to them and the tech and engineering guys agreed that the system would work. Then they said to send them 20-30,000 dollars and we could get started!! Way too expensive to get started. I'm not really too upset as the orbital isn't a true direct injection anyway, it has a max injection pressure of 3 bar. I have been since looking at the system used on the newest Audis, manufactured by Siemens. Very exciting system! It will run on gasoline or diesel for the possibility of a true multi-fuel system. For Jet-A it would be a spark ignition heavy fuel not diesel in the rotary. I am hoping the Siemens system will be cheaper and more available since it is used in cars. I priced out the parts for the Mercury system and it was just too expensive to buy over the counter. It might have bought the parts, but without being sure they would work, I just couldn't afford to take the chance. I am certain the Audi parts could be made to work so I'm working on finding a source. BTW Mistral is well along on a Jet-A fueled rotary, and has been running one for some time. They will release it fir production soon. don't know HP but it will be NA. Probably a bit less than the 190-200 they are getting fron the NA gasoline 2 rotor.
Cheers,
Bill Jepson
