May or may not be related, but there was a recall on RX-8s for oil warning lights coming on at speeds over 80 MPH.  It wasn't really low, just foamy.  Don't know what the fix was but they did not change the size or shape of the oil pan.

In all my searching, I never found a picture of the oil pump, but I did run across the recall.  The fix was a new oil pan with the sensor in a different location.
