I presume it was used and abused before it ever got on the airplane. Roger at japtrix (japtrix.com) told me he could send my stock turbo away for a rebuild for about $800. While doing the "rebuild" they would be able to modify the unit for better performace at low RPM. The price sounded reasonable, so I figured I'd do this once I'd done a bit of flying on the stock unit. You might want to look into this for you're turbo before buying a whole new one.
