I have been using the tape on residential plumbing mostly.
you are right about clogging things up.  I had a lot of leaks with Van's brake system (input, gravity feed side) in my -6A.  finally I tried using Teflon tape on the plastic fittings, a definite no-no.  it seemed to be working.  one day I lost my right brake entirely.  when I dismantled the cylinder I found a thread of tape had been sucked into the master cylinder and was thick enough to cause the piston O-ring to lose it's seal.   I think they have changed their brake plumbing fittings.   kevin (N3773 10 yrs old now!)

Kevin, I have used the teflon liquid more than 30 years, it is widely used in the oil and gas industries and works better than the tape in effect it doesn't  loose little pieces which can clog things up.  It is available at plumbing supply stores.  JohnD

I don't know if this applies correctly to the automotive world, but I often use Teflon tape on copper compression fittings, not because they need it, but that it insures that the fitting won't seize up later when I want to unscrew it.  I suppose never seize would act the same way.   kevin

John,

The GM efi fuel filters use a Saginaw fitting which requires an o-ring.  I don’t think you want to use thread sealer for these.  Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Rusty, looking back in my notes I see you used the GM fuel filter with the 16mm x 1.5p fittings from Earls, pt. nr. 991955.  I have these that I ordered from Jegs, they are power steering fittings and have an o-ring on them, did you use the o-ring or did you put sealer on the threads and tighten them down.  JohnD      getting to point where I may have only 1 or 2 thousand things to hook up.
