Early oil scraper seal failure is the long term problem. In the short term, oil in the wedge on the bearing face is at a much higher temperature than what the oil temp gage is reporting.
So rotor bearing failure is closer. Also the oil is indicative of rotor face temperatures and in a turbo installation that means running closer to detonation charge temperatures. Our engine builder (Daryl Drummond) advises that oil temps above 160 degrees are cutting into engine power. But in a NA engine detonation is not as big a problem.
