Oops, I should have written Mode 8 and not Mode 6.  I guess I'm confused too..

Below 22-23" MAP, the EC2 advances timing by 4 degrees plus what you adjust (advance)  with Mode 6. 
(Actually the EC2 doesn't advance, it only puts in less retard......still confused?)  See page 13 &14 of the instructions.

Yes, Ed summarized it very well.   Think of the 5.625 degrees as 'Vacuum advance' on the old distributors. 
 
 
You're talking about something other than mode 6 right?  If not, I'm more confused than before.  Per the instructions, that's 4 degrees of change, and is dependent on MAP, not rpm.
