[FlyRotary] Re: Another rotary failure
Stock seals
in 2mm are three piece which are junk but the stock 3mm seals are two piece
and they are very good quality.
Dave were they 2
or 3mm seals ???
Ken
Hi
Ken,
I think we
were talking about Chuck's most recent problem, not
Dave's.
As for the
seals, IIRC, Mazda made 2 and 3 piece 2mm seals over the years. I
can't recall which years though. Looking at the Mazdatrix site, they
list 86-95, 2mm, steel 2-piece Mazda seals. I don't see a listing for
3 piece (maybe because they're junk). They also list aftermarket
2-piece 2mm seals as well, so if he bought them from Mazdatrix, they could
have been non-Mazda seals.
Rusty
Yes its Chucks, to many blown engines out there and got
confused.
I was not aware that Mazda made any two piece 2mm seals until the
RX8 came out, now the seals they offer for the early engines are the same two
piece seal that is in the RX8 but I don't think they were out at the time that
Chuck put that engine together but maybe.
Ken
Ken,
The RX8 apex seals are much shorter in height than any previous
seal. I think you would be having a bit of compression problems using the RX8
seals in anything but RX8 engines.
