Subject: GURU suppling single rotor parts!
I've just this morning spoken to the chief engineer of GURU (X-Treme
Rotaries) Rohan Ambrose. It took me a while but it has been extremely
hectic
at GURU, but he took the time to ring me about the single- and yes Paul I
asked about the other parts as well. As you can imagine it was a long and
rather complex discussion shooting off in all directions, so I can't
recall
all the prices etc.
The bottom line for you enquiries is to contact Suzie at X-Treme
Rotaries and she will provide all the information/ prices ( and photo's)
and
refer to Rohan for complex enquiries - he just can't handle all the
e-mails
and do his job as chief engineer at the same time.
BTW RX8 rotors can be wire cut by GURU, it is extremely accurate as he
explained, but to cut an RX8 he needs to go to 3mm otherwise there is a
step( between old and new depth) which could interfere with the apex seal.
So to use an RX8 rotor for PP it requires 3mm seals. he can also cut in
windows in the inside of the Rotor housing to retain some centre seal
support for larger PP. The method he uses is to screw in the port insert-
it
is made out of solid so can be any size.He has found that this method is
less prone to leaking - it could be the filler he's using ?
The e-shafts are make out of EN 36A, they are CNC'd shot peened, ground
and
Carburised. I recommended another material as carburising is a hotter heat
treatment than Nitriding and can cause some distortion.
They are looking at aluminium housing and have some made for testing -
it's
a surface treatment and I suggested it may not stand up. He said he would
test it to it's limits.
The through bolts ( housing) are 4340
The prices aren't cheap but their reasonable compared to 'one- offs' and
the
quality is definitely 'there'.
He will do single e-shafts but needs a minimum of ten to make it cost
effective 'economy of scale' etc. He is currently setting up for a
'single' dyno run.
He explained there are enormous torque reversals ( term?) in the single
rotor, so balancing is critical. The advice I posted previously on
balancing
is supported by Guru and the US experts.
Hope this helps some!
