He feels that the engine (9.7 rotors) will be fully protected with a 6psi popoff valve and the stock wastegate. He seems to think that manual wastegate control is unnecessary. He once drove an RX7 up a 12,000ft mountain in Peru. As they neared the top he felt the boost drop off. It came back as they came back down the other side. For what it's worth. That is why I also think it is an excellent choice to protect both the turbo and the engine.
