Probably needed for factory setups since sump oil is injected into the intake. Hmmm.... This has recently been discussed over on the Cozy board, since pushers won't discover a serious oil leak (like a crank seal pushed out) until pressure is lost. A device called the "skinny dipper" was suggested, it rides in the dipstick tube and operates a series of LED's to indicate oil level. Problem is it cost several hundred $$$. Maybe this sensor could be adapted to Lyc's? Hi Tim, The 13B has a factory oil level switch in the pan. You don't want to have to buy one of those things either. After whining about the cost, Mazda gave me the wholesale price. I think it was $120 something. Later I found out I could have salvaged the old one. The wire was broken off, but by breaking off some plastic potting around it I could have gotten to it. Bob W.
