I unexpectedly got off early on Friday and came withing a nat's A$$ of just jumping in the plane and making the trip, as for once I have the while weekend off. Alas, my cooler head prevailed and I used the opportunity for time with th= e wife and parents before leaving for Iraq in January. I did take today off and flew to Laughlin Nevada for the $100-$10 brunch. Everything is working so well since the re-build that I can hardly stand it= . There were 4 other RV-6's, all with 180h.p. c/s props, and I easily beat them all in level flight. Although they could out-climb me(limited by temp)= , my cruise climb still got me to altitude and to the VOR well ahead. There was a 190h.p. c/s RV-8 that seemed to be a little faster (and climbed faster). However, with just a little more cooling and maybe a little more prop I would have him. It would be close. My TAS are now up in the high 180's (kts).
