Greetings,

I decided that I'm going ahead with the single rotor on the Kolb Slingshot, and I'll work out the insurance crap somehow.  The two pics were taken a few minutes ago, and the engine is permanently mounted on the plane.  The current weight is 170.5 lbs, including the mount, and redrive.

Now I have to make some decisions.  Part of me wants to make this simple, with the stock water pump, alternator mount, a carb, and the stock distributor.  The plane wouldn't be safe with all the power that could be obtained from a maximized EFI setup, so why mess with all the high pressure pumps, regulator, and fuel return.   Also, the plane is being converted to an open cockpit, so it's not so easy to keep the electronics out of the rain and such.   I also have a problem with not being able to reach the panel to fiddle with the EC-2.  Simple can be good, so I may start out that way.

The SS (Slingshot) needs to be finished by the end of January, because I just ordered a Sonex kit, and that's about when it will be delivered.  I won't have to decide on an engine until around next Summer, but if I had to choose today, it would certainly be the Jabiru 3300, since that's what most folks are having the best performance with.  The Sonex guys aren't real happy with alternative engines,  but if the single rotor is just doing perfectly on the SS, then I will have to consider it.  It would need a 2.17 drive, since there's no room to swing a real prop.  Lot's of time to decide.

Cheers,
Rusty

PS- Did anyone go to SERFI?  Is anyone actually flying these days?
