Called and spoke with them today.. turns out Kay, the lady working the desk DID still have my order.. tucked away.. its not been started on. John (Barrett, of Barrett Engineering, the maker of the Racemate) has been racing a lot, and so the shop really hasnt been producing much. Kay says there is a race this weekend, then John should be able to start getting to all his messages on Monday and supposedly get things started.

I'm figuring it was 4 weeks ago when I left my original message and preliminary order. Still waiting for a firm quote and ETA.

I have a 4 port (turbo) block that will be normally aspirated at first, add on turbo as we get things worked out.

I thought I was very specific that it was a Mazda 2nd generation engine 89-92 year models, they stated they had done a few, and would look for the pics..  unfortunately the pics weren't located, but they DID return my call to say so.

I was given a ballpark quote in the $400-500 range but I was not nailing down details yet.

My understanding is that this would be a direct drive unit, not a belt driven unit, even though what is seen in the catalogue is primarily belt driven units. Their web page has changed significantly in the past month, and their original web page discussed combination alt and wp units combined into one. Direct drive means that the drive shaft of the alternator/wp is directly affixed to the front pully hub on the e-shaft, so a "belt failure" would not result in an electrical and cooling failure as well (provided any belt fragments were contained).

I have a call in to them as of right now (1320 CDT) to discuss specifics and make an order. I will share with the group as this unfolds.

Hi David,
we discussed this Racemate Alternator a few months back; when I enquired they told me they had not done an RX8 but would look at it in future. Can you confirm that you have a Renesis 6 port, and that is what Racemate said they would make their alt/w/p to fit? And how much did they estimate it would cost? Also I notice you refer to a 'direct drive' pump in an earlier post, what do you mean by 'direct drive'? I downloaded the catalogue and only see belt drive units.

interesting, did Racemate agree to make a Mazda casting? Hope springs eternal...who are you talking with at Racemate?
Marc W.

Why: spec'ing a racemate direct drive water pump and alternator.. I
intend to order in the next week and want to select the right one.. or
the "most right" one.
