Bill, did Steven Wienzurl mention at what pump rpm this 53gpm was recorded? & if it was in a "normal system with engine and radiator and thermostat or not"?

Ed,
 I discussed this with Steven Wienzurl who did the PSRU for Powersport. He said the stock Mazda pump (13B) put out 53 GPM on the edge of cavitation. That would pretty much verify your SWAG.
