Hi Marv;
I hate to admit it, but I kinda just winged it. I've attached a pic
directly from spintechs site, that give a clue as to their internal
construction. I had previously seen a pic on their site that showed the
inside, but I can longer find it. I welded it up at work so I didn't have a
camera handy to take any pics.
I used a brake to make a rectangular box out of 316SS, then I took some
left over 321 pipe from making my exhaust and drilled a dense hole pattern
in each piece for 2/3 of the circumference, then used a zipcut blade to
split the pipe to make a spiral piece. The edge without holes should be at
the leading edge of the spiral (I'm not sure if this description is clear).
I then slid in one of the center spirals into position in the box. The coils
should be arranged in a diagonal pattern such that the leading edge of each
spiral is pointed towards the inlet and trailing the previous spiral. Begin
welding the edges of the spiral to the box. When It is adequately secured,
weld in the next center spiral. Do the outer spirals last. It is very
difficult to TIG weld these in place. The center spirals initially have
access to both sides, but are very deep inside the box. The outer spirals
have easier access to one side but are inaccessible on the back side. The
pic shows my weld marks clearly so you can see that I didn't get the entire
spiral edge welded, but it seems to be adequate.
I probably should do a drawing for my web page, so if this isn't clear let
me know and I'll draw something up.

Looks great!  Do you, by chance, have a drawing of how you built
it?  I'd sure
like to see the details.  TIA
