As causes of accidents, how common are engine fires in canard

homebuilts?  What kind of fire history do we have in the homebuilt

community overall?

Just wonderin' what we're up against ... Jim S.

Jim;

I personally know of three Velocitys that have head engine fires.  In one case the plane was destroyed after forced landing, in another (w/Powersport engine) forced landing not too serious damage, and the other (Chuck Harbert’s rotary) had two fires, both landings back at the airport, one with gear collapse.

There may have been others. Out of, what; maybe 150 Velocitys that have flown?  That’s a 2% probability.  Pretty high for such a potentially serious mishap.

But you made a good point – the best solution is prevention; that includes no barb fittings and rubber hoses downstream from the EFI pump, Bernie. J
