I don't like the way the mounting bracket is set up on the Mazda unit
either.  My mounting bracket is a major kludge.

        I can make up new mazda type high pressure oil coolers. I have the core in the shop and it can be cut to any width that is wanted. New fittings can be welded on  any side of the tank to  make hook ups easer. If interested e mail me and I can tell you more.

    Mazdatrix catalog shows An/Metric adapters for the oil cooler  and states that the fitting for the  Rear Housing of Engine     (also fits 86-92 Coolers - but only needed if you are making your own lines)  The adapter size given by Mazda for those years oil coolers is

    ADAPTER -10 18MM THD       So it appears that both holes in the oil cooler is 18mm.
