I've been watching this thread with a great deal of interest, since I will also need to be shielding the turbo from it's surroundings.
Will encapsulating the turbo make it retain heat that is normally dissipated, and make it run hotter ? I was just wondering about that.

That's been the age old question with regard to wrapping headers.  Of course the people who make the heat wrap material say there's no problem, yet the header manufacturers say it voids their warranty.  I have to believe that it isn't the ideal solution for a turbo, but allowing all that heat to enter the cowling may do more harm than what could happen to the turbo.  Unfortunately, I just don't think anyone really knows.
