About your
heat shield. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the stock heat shield. This is
what I'm using and it works fine. It fits perfectly over the turbo, stands up
fine to the heat and best of all it came with the turbo.

My turbo didn't
come with a heat shield, and I never really looked into using the stock
shield because I just didn't believe it will fit. Now that I've
looked at the Mazda parts document, I think it might. How close to the
turbo is the heat shield on the engine side? I probably have less than
half an inch of space between the turbo and intake at some points. I'll
attach a couple pics, and maybe you can tell me if you think it would
fit.
