I have a tangential muffler on my SOOB, and it is extremely quiet. Nothing inside, just gestimated inlet/outlet pipes. It also works on the single rotor on the test stand.

Buly, Interestingly the muffler used by Jabaru is a tangential style with a flat side. Fairly quiet too. I did a drawing showing how it will look on Jerry's through-and-through cool tube style.

I believe if the whole thing was made by using square, or out of round pipes and shapes it will reduce the noise better.
Maybe that?s why there is no square brass musing instruments? Their horns are all round to amplify the sound.
