I don't remember how long your intake is but why do you think VE will go up by making it shorter?  If the length is good on NA it will be good for turbo too.

Yea, eh, well, I was only getting about 140h.p. flying around n.a.  My intake is way too long, small, and rough cornered.  I figure it has an nice negative dynamic tuning where I'm getting a negative pressure wave just as the port is opening. 
 
See pictures if you dare.  My intake is to intakes, as Rusty's BUC was to cowlings. :-)  I think the length is about 27" from port to bell-mouth in the plenum.
 
A big part of the problem is that my engine mount won't allow anything on the port side of the engine. (excuses)
 
I was thinking I would make up for it all with a turbo...  see where that got me?
