How much of an over-voltage would it take to burn out the input power filter choke and shut down the EC-2.  Could this happen from a failed alternator voltage-regulator?  Is there something other builders could do to prevent this from happening to them?

A subject very close to my heart and wallet.
Howard made a suggestion today. He feels it's more of a requirement then just a suggestion - install a power regulator / diode and lithium battery for the EC2 thus giving both power stabilization and longevity in case of alternator failure. How would such a setup be done? What would it cost, and what parts do I need?
