I don't know if the grooves are hardened.
I have never warn out a groove, so I don't know how long they last. But the carbon seals are very much lighter than the iron seals, and I use too much oil in the fuel
( 8 Ozs in 5 gallons of Redline racing 2 cycle) So I have no data on max life in racing. Lynn E. Hanover
